In the early mornings before dawn, I walked along Bourbon Street. I
noticed other than the occasional drunk passed out on the side of a
building, there was not a soul in sight. It was early morning and the
smell of alcohol mixed with vomit and trashed that sat still in the
heavy humid warmth, was all that was left to greet me. The street
sweepers had not arrived yet to clean up the evidence of those who
partied hard the night before. Tonight, the cycle would begin again and
new ‘blood’ would be out to greet those of us who walked the night. But
for now, it was time to return home and rest.
